Malaysians in Saudi Arabia told to remain calm, follow instructions amid emergency alerts

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — Malaysian residents in Saudi Arabia are urged to remain composed and comply with directives from Saudi authorities, following the issuance of emergency alerts via the National Early Warning Platform. The Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah has emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols, which include staying indoors when feasible, maintaining distance from windows and open spaces, seeking shelter immediately when outside, avoiding crowded or hazardous areas, and continuously monitoring official updates.

In the event of an emergency, individuals can reach out to 911 for Makkah and Madinah regions or 998 for the rest of the Kingdom. Should Malaysian nationals require urgent consular support, they can contact the consulate general at +966 57 309 9589.

It is strongly recommended that the Malaysian community refrain from panicking or disseminating unverified information, instead, adhering solely to official guidance. On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia had alerted through its emergency platform about a "potential danger" in Jeddah, Makkah, and Taif, due to heightened tensions with the Houthi group. Saudi air defenses successfully intercepted and neutralized a drone launched by the Houthi group near Makkah, according to international media reports.
