Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences Of 7 Mumbai Food Establishments, Including Nair Hospital Canteen

Mumbai, September 17, 2026 - The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licenses of seven food establishments across the city, including Nair Hospital's canteen in Mumbai Central, following inspections on September 16 that revealed serious violations of food safety and hygiene standards. These establishments are situated in Colaba, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Worli, and Malad.

The Nair Hospital canteen was inspected on September 16 and found to be in violation of critical food safety and hygiene standards. The FDA suspended its license immediately, initiating further legal proceedings. The inspection uncovered multiple serious lapses, such as a urinal in the food storage area, unhygienic food preparation and utensil-washing facilities, food being handled directly on the floor, unclean water usage, cockroach and fly infestations, and meat blood residue inside a refrigerator.

Additionally, 34 out of 35 food handlers lacked the necessary food safety training, and critical documentation like mandatory water testing reports and sanitation records were absent.

Olympia Coffee House in Colaba faced the harshest consequences, with its food license suspended immediately. During the inspection, FDA officials discovered numerous violations, including improper segregation of raw vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, damaged wooden chopping boards, and the absence of suitable protective clothing among food handlers.

The establishment was directed to cease all food-related activities during the suspension period, and further action will be taken following rectification of the deficiencies and a satisfactory re-inspection.

Other establishments affected by the FDA's action include Blink Commerce Pvt Ltd in Chembur, Vishwas Sweets and Snacks in Ghatkopar West, A-1 General & Dry Fruits in Ghatkopar West, Milan Punjab in Worli, and Sadguru Sweets in Malad East. The FDA stated that these actions are in response to violations of food safety and hygiene requirements as outlined in the Food Safety and Standards Act and relevant regulations.

Additionally, P4B Technologies Service Pvt Ltd in Kharghar, Raigad, also had its license suspended due to detected deficiencies during an inspection.

FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe emphasized that the department will maintain stringent legal action against establishments that compromise consumer health, particularly those selling or storing expired or adulterated food items.
