Liam Coen has no lingering beef with Sean Payton before Broncos-Jaguars rematch

There was no lingering animosity between Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton prior to their upcoming rematch. In fact, there may not have been any genuine beef to begin with. During last season's season opener, Payton had praised Jacksonville's smaller market status, seemingly as a compliment.

However, Coen interpreted it as a slight and used it as motivation for his team. After the Jaguars' 34-20 victory, Coen remarked in his postgame press conference, "I'm just thankful that a small market team like us can come into a place like Mile High and get it done." Players celebrated with belts on the field, smacking the floor of Denver's locker room, demonstrating their satisfaction with Coen's strategic use of Payton's remark.

Despite the controversy, there is no animosity between the two coaches now. Coen mentioned a recent conversation with Payton at the NFL owners' meeting, where Payton joked, "I'm coming for you this year." Coen appreciated the compliment and acknowledged that he has learned a lot from Payton. Both coaches expressed goodwill towards each other, but that won't prevent either from employing any potential motivation to energize their teams ahead of the rematch on Sunday.
