Lee set for press conference amid falling approval ratings

President Lee Jae Myung prepared to hold a press conference on Friday aimed at addressing pressing issues and attempting to revive his sagging approval ratings. The controversy surrounding government policies has led to the lowest approval ratings seen in recent times, particularly among younger voters. The press conference will be conducted under the theme that "people's wishes and lives will be more closely heeded," and will last for 90 minutes, starting at 10:30 a.m. This marks Lee's seventh press conference since taking office in June of 2025, although it is a rare occurrence as most of his previous press conferences were held on special occasions.

Lee's approval ratings have plummeted to the low 30 percent range in recent weeks, prompting the announcement of the press conference three days prior. The president will face tough questions from the media regarding his and his ruling party's efforts to amend the constitution, as well as ongoing legal issues involving his suspended trials. Both the president and his ruling Democratic Party are advocating for constitutional revision.
