Korea blank Bangladesh for 2nd straight win in women's football

NAGOYA — Korea secured a 6-0 triumph over Bangladesh in women's football at the Asian Games in Japan on Thursday, marking their second consecutive victory in the tournament. Each of the six Taegeuk Ladies players contributed a goal, showcasing their dominance in the Group F match held at Nagai Stadium in Osaka, located approximately 140 kilometers west of Nagoya.

Having previously defeated Myanmar 5-0, Korea will face North Korea in their last group match at 4 p.m. on Monday at Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa in Shizuoka, roughly 135 kilometers east of Nagoya. North Korea had previously triumphed over Bangladesh 10-0 in their opening match, with a scheduled encounter against Myanmar later that night.

If North Korea emerges victorious against Myanmar as predicted, both Koreas will advance to the quarterfinals as the top two teams from Group F; the outcome of their Monday match will then determine the group champion. Despite never winning an Asiad gold medal, the Korean women's team secured three consecutive bronze medals in the previous three Asian Games, held in 2010, 2014, and 2018, before being eliminated in the quarterfinals during the 2023 edition.

Korea's goal scorers in the 6-0 victory included Kim Min-ji, who netted a hat-trick against Myanmar during their earlier encounter.
