Karnataka Transport Department books 1,508 cases during Gauri-Ganesh festival checks

During the Gauri-Ganesh festival in Bengaluru, the Karnataka Transport Department conducted a five-day enforcement drive from September 11 to 15, targeting private passenger vehicle operators. The campaign aimed to curb violations such as excessive fares, overloading, permit violations, and illegal transportation of passengers and goods.

The Transport Department booked a total of 1,508 cases and collected over ₹19.44 lakh in taxes and fines. In Bengaluru Urban, officials inspected 2,260 vehicles, booking 811 cases. Five vehicles were seized, and 117 permit violations were detected, resulting in ₹10.44 lakh in tax and fine collections. Meanwhile, in Bengaluru Rural, 1,400 vehicles were checked, leading to the booking of 697 cases.

Officials detected 125 permit violations, collecting ₹9 lakh in taxes and fines. The enforcement teams were instructed to specifically target vehicles charging fares beyond permitted rates, carrying passengers over sanctioned capacity, and transporting goods or explosives in violation of regulations.
