Karachi Port’s liner shipping connectivity hits record high

Karachi Port's Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI) hit a record high of 343.02 in the second quarter of 2026, according to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry. The index, which tracks a port's integration into the global liner shipping network, surpassed previous records and is now the highest recorded.

PLSCI data, sourced from approximately 900 ports worldwide, revealed a significant upward trend in Karachi Port's connectivity with international shipping services. This improvement could bolster trade flows, enhance access to global markets, and open up new opportunities for exporters and importers. Chaudhry noted that the port's PLSCI had risen from 309.81 in Q1 2026 to its current peak of 343.02, marking a notable improvement.

The minister also highlighted an overall improvement in Pakistan's Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) ranking, which climbed from 35th to 34th globally. He attributed these gains to ongoing efforts to enhance port services, support shipping activity, and foster a trade-friendly environment. Chaudhry emphasized that bolstering port connectivity would enable Pakistani businesses to engage more effectively with international markets, thereby reinforcing Pakistan's position in regional and global trade.

He pledged continued collaboration with port authorities, shipping lines, and other stakeholders to further strengthen maritime ties.
