Kamathipura Redevelopment Moves Ahead As MHADA Signs Agreement With Developers, Work To Begin On Diwali

Mumbai's Kamathipura Cluster Redevelopment Project is set to progress as the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) signed a Construction & Development Agency (C&DA) agreement with Bhagirathi Housing Pvt. Ltd. and Mathi Developers. Work is slated to begin on Diwali. The agreement, signed at MHADA headquarters in Bandra, marks the shift from planning to implementation.

The project is overseen by the Maharastra Built-up Area Regulation Board (MBRRB) under Regulation 33(9) of the Delhi Capitals Public Records Act, 2034, and designated MHADA as the nodal agency. Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal confirmed the transition at the signing ceremony. The redevelopment aims to provide safer housing and modern infrastructure while preserving Kamathipura's historic character.

The project spans around 34 acres across Lanes 1 to 15, housing about 8,001 tenants, including 6,625 residential and 1,376 non-residential occupants, and 800 landowners. The redevelopment will offer 500 sq ft rehabilitation flats to eligible residential tenants and rehabilitate commercial occupants. MHADA has approved financial support measures for affected occupants, including two years' advance rent, a one-time Rs 25,000 shifting allowance for residents, and fixed monthly rents for commercial occupants and landowners during the redevelopment period.
