Jon Stewart Encourages White House Press to Ignore Trump: ‘He Needs Them More’

Jon Stewart questioned the White House press corps on his podcast about whether they should stop pursuing President Trump. Upon being asked by producer Brittany Mehmedovic, "Do you think the White House press corps should just ignore him instead of running after him like Natalie Harp?" Stewart replied, "I do. I actually think that he only he needs them more than they need him."

Stewart argued that the White House press corps' current dynamic benefits Trump more than it serves journalists in holding him accountable. He pointed out that the system has been designed to advantage Trump, limiting the press's ability to ask follow-up questions and engage in meaningful discourse. Stewart also noted that the current exchanges serve no public value, reducing to being a mere platform for Trump to express his opinions.

Despite this, Stewart acknowledged that news organizations continue to engage with Trump due to the immense volume of content he generates. However, he insisted that this access does not equate to transparency. Instead, he likened it to "pettifog machine," a term popularized by Bill O'Reilly, emphasizing the lack of meaningful communication and the fruitlessness of the exercise. Stewart concluded by emphasizing that such engagement only serves to keep Trump as the central figure, craving his own spotlight.
