Meta's camera-equipped smart glasses have gained traction in the market but have also stirred controversy among consumers who view them as symbols of intrusive surveillance. Amidst mounting complaints about selling "pervert glasses," the company is reportedly preparing to launch a new model that lacks integrated camera equipment.

Named Luna, the upcoming smart glasses will still offer convenient communication capabilities through a system that interfaces with Meta's AI chatbot and Muse, its AI consumer agent. Equipped with six built-in microphones, Luna will allow users to interact with the chatbot and access the AI agent with a simple button press on the side of the glasses.

According to The Information, Luna may be unveiled during Meta Connect, the tech giant's annual hardware and developer conference taking place next week in Menlo Park. While the smart glasses sector has seen growth in recent years, with Meta at the forefront, concerns regarding usability, affordability, and privacy have persistently plagued the industry.

Meta's Reality Labs, the division responsible for developing the smart glasses line, continues to hemorrhage substantial losses, as evidenced by its April earnings report.
