Grand Slams sent stern warning about what will happen if schedule changes aren’t made soon, ‘it’s insanity’

John Lloyd has expressed his strong disapproval of best-of-five set tennis, particularly in light of the late finishes at the US Open this year. The US Open saw multiple late finishes, with the final match between Ben Shelton and Carlos Alcaraz concluding at 3:33am on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Lloyd, who has experience playing best-of-five set matches, believes that the physical toll of these matches is causing problems.

He stated, "I do believe the fatigue a little bit caught up with him" regarding Shelton's match against Alcaraz. Lloyd argued that the late finishes are "insanity" and that it's "ridiculous" when you consider the impact on spectators, TV audiences, and the players themselves. He believes that if the three Grand Slams (excluding Wimbledon) truly want to make money, they should change their schedule to avoid regularly finishing past midnight.

Lloyd also criticized the current format for increasing the risk of injuries, as several top players have missed Grand Slams this year due to injuries.
