Government considers extending September 18 Form One reporting date amid CSSPS challenges

The government is contemplating extending the September 18 reporting deadline for Form One students, pending the resolution of issues with the Senior High School placement system. This move follows a previous one-week extension granted to students who faced difficulties completing their placement processes via the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

During a visit to the National Resolution Centre in Accra, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu indicated that the deadline could be pushed back if all unresolved cases are addressed before the current deadline expires. He emphasized the need for patience and tolerance from resolution center officials while handling student and parent concerns.

The Minister also assured the public that the government would explore long-term solutions to the recurring placement challenges, primarily by enhancing school infrastructure catering to the highest demand levels. Currently, out of the 604,000 students who qualified for placement, around 527,000 have secured spots in Senior High Schools.

The Ministry maintains that the CSSPS remains largely merit-based, although they pledge to conduct a thorough review of the system to identify and rectify persistent placement process challenges. For now, the September 18 reporting date remains the scheduled reopening date, with any extension contingent upon the resolution of outstanding placement cases.
