Gomoa Potsin in darkness after alleged attack on ECG staff

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected power to Gomoa Potsin, leaving a significant portion of the community without electricity for three consecutive days. This occurred following an altercation between residents and an ECG monitoring team during an inspection exercise, where a faulty meter was identified. An ECG staff member was injured during the incident, leading the company to cut power to the affected area.

Residents are struggling to cope with the disruption caused by the power outage, as it has severely impacted businesses and livelihoods. Elizabeth Tetteh, a shop owner, expressed concern over the loss of sales due to the cold drinks not being available. Nana Yaw, a resident, highlighted the security issues that have arisen due to the darkness. Chop bar operator Elizabeth Kpodo and cold store operator Azara also disclosed how their businesses have been affected, with some stock going bad and relying on standby generators.

Assemblyman Ebenezer Adams appealed to ECG to reconnect the community, promising assistance in catching the individual responsible for the attack on the ECG staff member. The community has also apologized to ECG, requesting a swift restoration of power.
