Former Negri Sembilan MB backs Tuanku Muhriz as lawmakers question exco statement on royal succession

Negri Sembilan's former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has urged the state's residents to support Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. Two Pakatan Harapan lawmakers have raised doubts over a state executive council statement confirming the ruler's removal, questioning if it truly represents the official stance of the government.

Aminuddin, who serves as Negri Sembilan's PKR chief, called for unity and defense of the constitutional monarchy. He asked the public to stand behind Tuanku Muhriz and reject those who betray the royal institution. Meanwhile, Teo Kok Seong, a former exco member and Bahau assemblyman, doubted whether a joint statement from exco members could be considered the official position of the state government.

He said such statements usually come from the chief minister or state secretary's office. Nilai assemblyman and opposition leader J. Arul Kumar also sought an immediate explanation on the conflicting statements regarding Tuanku Muhriz and the royal institution. He referred to statements by Chief Minister Datuk Ismail Lasim and the exco, emphasizing the need for clarification on the matter.

The dispute over the Negeri Sembilan throne has been ongoing for months. The state executive council's recent statement claimed the April 19 proclamation removing Tuanku Muhriz was signed and sealed by the legitimate Undang, and the menteri besar's signature on August 3 finalized the proclamation. However, it did not address the opposition from the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang, which argued that Article 10 of the state constitution requires a thorough inquiry before removing a ruler.
