Ford’s comments about supporting Chow were not an endorsement, his office says

Ford's office has clarified that Premier Doug Ford did not endorse Olivia Chow for the mayoral position of Toronto. When questioned about the upcoming municipal elections, Ford stated, "The mayor and I have a phenomenal relationship, we are going to continue supporting the mayor. She is doing an incredible job, so, read between the lines." However, it seems that this statement was misinterpreted as Ford endorsing Chow's reelection bid.

On Thursday night, Ford's office issued a statement to clarify their position. They said, "We would like to clarify that Premier Ford did not endorse Olivia Chow and will not endorse any candidate in the Toronto mayoral race." Ford's office emphasized that the premier will work with anyone regardless of their political affiliation to serve the people of Ontario.

Chow and Ford have generally found common ground and mutual respect, despite disagreements on various issues such as the removal of bike lanes, Billy Bishop airport expansion, and the banning of speed cameras. However, they have collaborated on significant infrastructure projects like the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway (DVP) upgrade.

In a recent poll conducted by Liaison Strategies, Chow leads with 50% support from decided and leaning voters, compared to Brad Bradford's 39%. Chris Alexander follows in third place with 10%. Chow also has a 51% approval rating, while 45% of people disapprove of her performance as mayor. Toronto residents will head to the polls on Monday, October 26, with voting locations open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
