FM Cho heads to Washington for talks with Rubio on investment, Hormuz, N. Korea

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun departed for Washington on Thursday, setting off for a three-day visit focused on discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio. The talks are expected to encompass a variety of pressing matters, including economic and security collaborations between South Korea and the United States, as well as issues related to North Korea and the Middle East conflict.

Ministry officials revealed that Cho's itinerary includes a scheduled meeting with Rubio on Friday, according to local time. During his stay in Washington, Cho will engage in extensive deliberations on a range of outstanding issues between the two nations, along with consultations pertaining to matters concerning the Korean Peninsula, regional affairs, and the global situation.

Cho addressed reporters prior to his departure from Incheon International Airport, located west of Seoul. The meeting serves as an opportunity for Seoul and Washington to address their differences on a number of outstanding issues, such as Korea's role in ensuring the safety of the Strait of Hormuz and its plans for investment in the United States.
