Fed up with dog menace, protesters release strays inside Nashik civic chief’s office

In Nashik, Yuva Sena district chief Vikram Randhave and his supporters staged a protest against the increasing stray dog menace on Wednesday. They released four to five stray dogs inside the office of Niphad Nagar Panchayat Chief Officer Dheeraj Bhamre. The dogs were placed on Bhamre's table, adorned with a garland made of currency notes, to express the protesters' frustration with the civic body's failure to address the issue.

Randhave highlighted that the stray dog population in Niphad town and its surroundings has surged, resulting in numerous dog-bite incidents. Children, women, senior citizens, and two-wheeler riders were among those most affected by these attacks. The protesters alleged that packs of stray dogs have instilled fear among residents and heightened the risk of accidents.

Despite submitting several complaints and memorandums to the administration, the protesters claimed that no effective action had been taken. They expressed their anger by releasing the dogs inside Bhamre's office, aiming to directly convey the severity of the issue. The agitators cautioned that if no concrete steps were taken, they would intensify their protests by staging demonstrations inside government offices.

Chief Officer Bhamre later assured the protesters that the administration would review the issue and that the Nagar Panchayat had already initiated sterilization measures for stray dogs.
