F-16 crashes on training run in Michigan; pilot safely ejects

An F-16 fighter jet from Texas crashed in Michigan on Thursday, prompting a shelter-in-place order in part of County Road 633, according to the county's emergency management. The 149th Fighter Wing of the Texas National Guard confirmed that the pilot ejected from the aircraft and is currently in stable condition, receiving medical treatment.

The plane was reportedly engaged in a routine training exercise at the time of the incident. The shelter-in-place order applies to County Road 633 from Jefferson Place to Blair Townhall Road, with emergency management instructing those in the area to remain indoors, close windows and vents, and follow guidance from authorities. Grand Traverse officials stated that the aircraft went down near County Road 633 and Blair Townhall Road, and traffic in the vicinity has been halted.

Responders have been dispatched to the scene, and the agency has requested that people avoid the area. Blair Township Supervisor Nicole Blonshine expressed no knowledge of anyone on the ground being injured or of any homes sustaining damage, though the cause of the crash, the operator of the aircraft, and whether any other individuals were on board remain unknown.
