Exclusive-China’s Xpeng plans to offer tech solutions to foreign automakers

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng is planning to offer its technology solutions to foreign automakers, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The company is reaching out to potential partners who have shown interest in its technology, which includes electrical and electronic architecture, cockpit systems, Turing AI chips, and advanced-driver assistance software.

These potential partners may also include foreign software developers and automobile suppliers. Xpeng, which is venturing into areas like robotaxis, humanoid robots, and flying cars, aims to expand its technology licensing and customization business to cover robotaxi, robotics, and other physical AI applications. The company established a strategic commercialization team about six months ago to explore new partnerships and commercial possibilities, built upon the experience from its alliance with Volkswagen.

The partnership with Volkswagen, which began in July 2023, has proven to be a valuable source of revenue for Xpeng, particularly through technology services.
