ESPN posts strong overall ratings for Week 1 ‘MNF,’ ManningCast audience slumps

ESPN's Week 1 Monday Night Football (MNF) ratings showcased strong overall performance, with the Denver Broncos versus Kansas City Chiefs game drawing a staggering 23.2 million viewers, marking the highest-rated debut of the season and the third most-watched MNF broadcast since ESPN took over the slot in 2006. Joe Buck, the voice behind MNF, recently signed a lucrative six-year contract extension with the network, likely pleased by these impressive figures.

However, not all news was positive for ESPN, as the ManningCast, a show featuring the Manning brothers' commentary, experienced a slower start to the season.

The ManningCast's audience was only 705,000 viewers on ESPN2, a modest number that has been declining for years, with only two shows reaching the one million-viewer mark throughout the entire NFL season last year. While 705,000 viewers may seem disappointing, it should not raise too many concerns, as the first broadcast of the season typically garners significant attention.
