Encouraging response as new-generation MyKad issuance runs smoothly

The new-generation MyKad issuance process commenced smoothly in Putrajaya today, with a positive response from the public, according to National Registration Department (NRD) Identity Card Division director Muhammad Asraf Sukadi. The number of applicants for MyKad replacements at NRD Putrajaya surged to over 300 this morning, a significant increase from the usual 100.

Asraf expressed satisfaction, stating that the registration numbers were already above 300 in the morning and many individuals were waiting for their new MyKad. There have been no issues reported so far, and the entire process is proceeding smoothly. At NRD Putrajaya, acquiring a new MyKad typically takes about 30 minutes in the absence of complications, while for 12-year-old children, it takes approximately one hour on average.

Asraf, during a press conference after inspecting the implementation of the new-generation MyKad issuance, also shared that the public had given positive feedback on the new MyKad. Notably, the QR code on the MyKad can only be accessed by enforcement agencies, signifying its high level of security. This QR code is inaccessible through an ordinary phone camera and serves to verify the identity of the MyKad holder.

Asraf advised the public against rushing to replace their MyKad with the new-generation card, as the existing MyKad remains functional for various transactions. The Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, announced that the new-generation MyKad applications can now be submitted at 40 NRD branches equipped with printing facilities, with the cards ready on the same day.

For NRD branches without printing facilities, applications can still be made, and the cards would be ready within five working days. The new-generation MyKad boasts several advanced security features, including a Dynamic Security Hologram, Transparent Window, Enforcement QR Code, and Dual Interface Chip on the back.
