The European Parliament has defined the Ceuta crisis as an "invasion" despite opposition from the Socialists, according to a resolution passed with a narrow margin. The issue sparked heated debates and a complex vote over the course of a week. The document, promoted by the European People's Party (EPP), labels the crisis as an "invasion," a term that has caused division within the chamber and prompted rejection from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D).

The S&D contends that the term only serves to fuel xenophobia and is misinformation. However, the resolution also includes criticisms of the Pedro Sánchez government and Morocco, and was approved with 339 votes in favor and 225 against, reflecting the right-leaning balance of power in the European Parliament. While the EPP secured the proposal with support from conservative and far-right groups, as well as a significant portion of the Liberals from Renew, the Socialists, European Left, most Greens, and some Liberals voted against it, largely seeing it as an opportunity to criticize the Sánchez government.
