Draft law on precious metals and gemstones approved

The Cabinet of Qatar, led by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, has approved a draft law on precious metals and gemstones. This legislation, prepared by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology, aims to replace the 1978 law and strengthen regulation of the sector according to international standards.

The measure seeks to enhance consumer protection and market participant oversight. Additionally, the Cabinet endorsed a revised decision for the Permanent Committee for the Registration of Pharmaceutical Companies and Their Products, updating the committee's mandate to align with contemporary registration procedures. The Cabinet also reiterated Qatar's stance on foreign policy matters, denouncing Houthi missile and drone attacks on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia, as well as drone strikes from Iraq targeting Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure.

The Cabinet further condemned renewed Iranian attacks on Jordan, considering them a clear violation of Jordanian sovereignty and international law. The meeting concluded with discussions on Qatar Tourism's 2025 annual report and Qatar's involvement in international forums, including the 114th International Labour Conference and the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance.
