Dodgers Demote Former Top Prospect Amid Disappointing Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers have demoted right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller to Triple-A after a disappointing season. In response, they recalled right-hander Landon Knack from Triple-A to take over the bulk of the innings. Miller has only pitched twice for the Dodgers this season due to injuries, making his return to the team on September 5th.

His first appearance was in a game against the Washington Nationals where he threw a shaky inning but settled in, allowing one run over three frames while striking out two. Miller was subsequently sent back to the minors. However, he made a comeback on September 14th, pitching 2.1 innings after starting pitcher Blake Snell went down with a groin injury.

Despite allowing a home run and a baserunner, Miller finished with a 2.1 innings pitched, one strikeout, and two runs allowed on three hits. Miller was once the Dodgers' No. 2 prospect, but injuries and rough seasons have hindered his progress. At 27 years old, he still has the potential to bounce back with a healthy season. Knack and Miller share similar roles, handling bulk innings on bullpen days or when starters exit early due to injury.

Miller's 2.1 innings pitched on Wednesday led to Knack's recall to fill his role while Miller recovers. Knack, who has three MLB appearances this season, posted a 2.04 ERA during strong months in August and September, allowing no runs in his last two outings. He is expected to continue his impressive performance in Thursday's game starting at 9:40 a.m. PT.
