Dodgers Cut Ties With Minor-League MVP Outfielder in Shocking Move

The Los Angeles Dodgers have unexpectedly cut ties with their minor-league standout, outfielder Ryan Ward, ahead of their game against the Cincinnati Reds. Ward, who was named the 2025 Pacific Coast League MVP, had only 20 MLB games under his belt in seven years with the Dodgers. After making headlines in 2025 with a stellar season, hitting 36 home runs and driving in 122 RBIs in 143 games for the Oklahoma City Comets, Ward made his MLB debut in April 2026.

He started out strong, recording two hits and making a pinch-hit appearance in his first two games back. However, Ward's performance declined in the following days, leading the Dodgers to option him back to Triple-A on June 29. Despite his strong Triple-A track record, the Dodgers' deep roster and abundance of outfield prospects made it challenging for Ward to secure a spot in the big leagues.

Their decision to call up a top prospect, Josue De Paula, instead of Ward highlighted the team's preference for other options. While Ward can still be retained by clearing waivers, his minor league history suggests other teams may be interested in him as the season progresses.
