Dino Melaye opposes move to reopen Atiku’s alleged financial crimes case

Former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has expressed disappointment over a petition calling for the reopening of an investigation into alleged financial crimes committed by Atiku Abubakar, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). DAILY POST reports that former House of Representatives member, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, recently submitted the petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) within a 14-day timeframe.

Agbonayinma vowed to take legal action against the EFCC if the commission fails to respond within the given timeframe. The petitioner alleged that the EFCC investigated and reported on Atiku's involvement in grand corruption between 2005 and 2006, during his tenure as Nigeria's Vice President. Melaye, in a video posted on his official X handle, labeled the petition as shameful, stating that it was thrown out more than a decade ago.

He questioned the integrity of the petitioner, who had recently changed political affiliations multiple times. Melaye also criticized the petitioner's lack of stability and organization, questioning his ability to write a petition.
