Diesel price rise by Rs3.47, petrol falls Rs0.43 per litre

On Thursday, the federal government adjusted the ex-depot prices of petroleum products, raising high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.47 per litre and decreasing the price of motor spirit (petrol) by Rs0.43 per litre. The new prices will remain in effect until Friday, September 18, 2026, according to a press release from the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).

The HSD price was updated from Rs421.45 to Rs424.92 per litre, while the motor spirit (MS) price was reduced from Rs391.22 to Rs390.79 per litre. These changes were based on the petroleum pricing mechanism issued by the federal government and were prompted by global events, including fluctuations in Platts rates, premiums, and other incidentals.

Earlier, the government had increased the price of petrol to Rs391.22 per litre and HSD to Rs421.45 per litre. Oil prices dropped around 3% on Thursday, hitting a one-week low and remaining above $100 a barrel due to concerns about potential widening of the Middle East conflict. Despite the drop, Brent crude futures declined by $3.85, or 3.64%, to $101.98 a barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate futures fell by $3, or 2.93%, to $99.43 a barrel.

The decline occurred after US Energy Secretary Chris Wright suggested a faster recovery of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, and Saudi efforts to sustain shipments via additional loadings off Oman helped alleviate supply worries, as noted by Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade.
