Court Dismisses Mohammad Rizwan’s Petition Against NCCIA

The Lahore High Court (LHC) recently dismissed cricket player Mohammad Rizwan's petition disputing notices issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Rizwan's lawyer, Qazi Umair Ali, argued that the allegations against his client were false and baseless. According to Ali, Rizwan was questioned without being served a notice following the Lord's Test, and his mobile phone was taken into custody.

However, the phone has not been returned, and Ali contended that the investigation had been handled with bad faith. The LHC's Chief Justice, Aalia Neelum, expressed dissatisfaction with Rizwan's lawyer for not presenting the case file in court. The court directed the lawyer to approach the agency, explain Rizwan's position, and respond to the notices.

The inquiry into online betting and gambling is currently underway, and Rizwan had challenged the agency's jurisdiction and the basis of the investigation. He maintained that the notice did not specify any allegations or explain the illegal activity he was accused of. Rizwan later submitted a written response to the agency, seeking clarification about the summons and the return of his mobile phone. The NCCIA has not officially announced any final decision on either player.
