COAS pledges N25m for retired officers’ medical fund

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, has pledged N25 million to the Emergency Health Fund of the Course 39 Nigerian Defence Academy United Welfare Association. This pledge was made in support of the medical needs of retired military officers. In a visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja, Shaibu emphasized the army's commitment to the welfare of serving and retired personnel, stating that caring for those who served the nation remains an enduring responsibility.

Shaibu also highlighted the importance of engaging with retired officers and veterans, noting that their expertise remains valuable for the Army. He further outlined ongoing reforms aimed at improving the Army's operational effectiveness, including an expanded force, new training curricula, and the integration of space, cyber, and non-kinetic capabilities.

Shaibu also mentioned the Senior Executive Transition Programme designed to prepare retiring senior officers and their spouses for post-service life. Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, the President of the association's Executive Committee, expressed gratitude for Shaibu's pledge and the army's support in areas such as health insurance, emergency assistance, and capacity-building programs.
