Christian Yelich’s 2-run double rallies NL Central champion Brewers to 5-4 win over Pirates

On Wednesday night, the Milwaukee Brewers secured a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, clinching the NL Central championship. Christian Yelich's two-run double in the seventh inning proved decisive, lifting the Brewers from a 4-3 deficit. Yelich's powerful hit came just one night after the Brewers clinched their fourth consecutive NL Central title, the first in major league history to do so.

Milwaukee, boasting the best record in the majors at 95-57, aspires to finish atop the standings for a home-field advantage in the postseason. The Brewers have won seven of their past eight games, including a sweep of the Pirates. Oneil Cruz, Brandon Lowe, and Rafael Flores Jr. each hit a home run in consecutive innings to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead in the sixth.

The Pirates, who have hit a franchise-record 174 home runs this season, broke the previous record of 171 set in 1998. Antonio Senzatela (11-5) and Trevor Megill (28 saves) combined to pitch effectively, with Senzatela retiring two batters and Megill recording his 28th save. Both starting pitchers, Milwaukee's Logan Henderson and Pittsburgh's Jared Jones, allowed three runs over five innings.

Henderson struck out nine while Jones struck out nine as well. The Brewers' Andrew Vaughn and Cooper Pratt opened the scoring with consecutive RBI singles in the second inning. Brice Turang doubled home a run in the fifth. The series continues Thursday afternoon with starting pitcher Kyle Harrison (10-4, 3.98 ERA) set to take the mound for the Brewers.
