China Tour: Volta chiefs seek development ideas and partnerships

A delegation of traditional leaders from the Volta Region of Ghana recently journeyed to Guangdong Province in China to gather insights on the country's impressive development, security systems, and technology-driven infrastructure. The chiefs, headed by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, visited Guangzhou, Foshan, and Shenzhen to gain firsthand knowledge of China's industrial and technological advancements.

The delegation, led by Ghana's Ambassador to China, H.E. Kojo Bonsu and businessman Mr Peter Ahiekpor, explored factories, industrial parks, and smart cities while witnessing China's advanced high-speed rail system.

Upon returning to Ghana, the traditional rulers expressed their awe at China's security, cleanliness, advanced technology, and disciplined workforce. Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, a key figure in the delegation, praised China's leadership and transformation, stating that the experience showed the potential of sustained investment in infrastructure, technology, and human capacity.

The chiefs believed that the transformation of Chinese cities and industries offered valuable lessons for Ghana and the Volta Region, particularly in industrialization, security management, technology transfer, and infrastructure development.

The delegation commended the leadership of China's President, H.E. Xi Jinping, for transforming the country into a global economic and industrial powerhouse. They further commended Ambassador Kojo Bonsu and Consul-General Mr Sidney Kwesi Ellis for facilitating the tour and enabling the delegation to experience China's industrial environment firsthand.

The chiefs described their visit as a game-changer, broadening their understanding of opportunities that could emerge from closer economic and technological cooperation between Ghana and China. The delegation expressed optimism that the knowledge and contacts gained would help accelerate industrialization and attract investments to the Volta Region. They pledged to translate their tour experience into practical development opportunities for Ghana.
