CF Montréal advance to Canadian Championship final

CF Montréal have secured their place in the 2026 Canadian Championship final after overcoming Vancouver Whitecaps FC with an aggregate score of 3-2. The decisive match took place at Stade Saputo, where Montréal triumphed 2-1 following a 1-1 draw in the first leg at BC Place. This marks Montréal's first appearance in the final since 2023.

They will face Canadian Premier League side Forge FC in the Oct. 21 final. Forge FC had eliminated FC Supra du Québec, 2-1, on aggregate in their semifinal. Montréal took the lead in the 30th minute through a penalty kick by Prince Owusu, and Owusu added a second goal in the 45th minute on a breakaway to secure the win for Montréal.

Vancouver, who entered the tournament as four-time defending Voyageurs Cup champions, managed a goal from Emmanuel Sabbi in the 91st minute but failed to advance for the first time since 2021. Montréal aim for their sixth Voyageurs Cup title, having last won in 2021. The 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup awaits the year's victor, with an additional berth for the Champions Cup if Forge FC secures the Canadian Championship and wins either the CPL Supporters’ Shield or the North Star Cup.

Owusu, with 13 goals in MLS and three in the Canadian Championship, has been in exceptional form throughout the season. Montréal's next fixture is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 against Columbus Crew at 7:30 pm ET on Apple TV, followed by a match against Real Salt Lake at 9:30 pm ET on Apple TV.
