BPHB unit appointed Bintulu Port operator for 30 years

Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) has selected Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd, as its approved port operator for the next 30 years, from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2056. The decision was approved by the Sarawak legislative assembly and published in the Sarawak Government Gazette on September 10, 2026.

The appointment is governed by Section 12(2)(a) of the Port Authorities Ordinance, 1961. Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development notified BPSB in June 2026 that the government had approved the appointment in principle. BPSB will be responsible for operating Bintulu Port while adhering to the Port Authorities Ordinance and any by-laws, regulations, or subsidiary legislation that may be made under it.

The terms and conditions of the Heads of Agreement dated July 27, 2026, between the Sarawak state government, Bintulu Port Authority, and BPSB, will also apply until the Port Operation Concession Agreement is signed.
