Bogota Neighborhood Named Among the 100 ‘Coolest’ in the World

In its ninth annual ranking of global city life, cultural guide Time Out has hailed Chapinero Alto in Bogota as one of the world's coolest neighborhoods. The neighborhood secured the seventh spot on the list, topped by Jongno 3-ga in Seoul, South Korea. Time Out's profile writer, Anastasia Moloney, praised Chapinero Alto for its village-like ambiance, scenic mountain views and warm hospitality, despite its proximity to one of Bogota's most bustling districts.

Chapinero Alto is known for its remarkable diversity, housing a significant LGBTQ+ community, along with young artists, university students, expatriates, and digital nomads. The area boasts a vibrant creative and culinary scene, featuring independent clothing stores, bookshops, antique shops, eateries and cafes. The neighborhood's architectural landscape is a mix of Tudor-style brick houses, low-rise structures from the 1970s, and contemporary loft apartments.

Perched on a higher elevation, Chapinero Alto offers panoramic vistas of Bogota. Scenic terraces serve as gathering spots for coffee, wine and food. Time Out suggests starting the day in Chapinero Alto with traditional pastries, artisan teas or Colombian coffee before exploring independent art galleries and local boutiques. The guide recommends visiting the neighborhood throughout the year, excluding April due to heavier rainfall.

Chapinero Alto is one of five Latin American neighborhoods featured in the 2026 list, alongside Laranjeiras in Rio de Janeiro, Chacagiales in Buenos Aires, Republica in São Paulo, and the Historic Center of Lima.
