The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) has reminded politicians that while Article 10 of the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, its exercise entails responsibility to avoid statements that undermine confidence or spark animosity. The commission emphasizes that religious figures, scriptures, and religious practices should not be made sexual content, twisted, or used as political entertainment without considering whether the statement was intended as a jest.

Malaysia's diversity demands equal respect for all religions, according to the statement. Those who wish to have their beliefs and traditions respected must show the same respect for the beliefs and traditions of others. Suhakam states that an apology in cases involving religious sensitivities should encompass efforts to address public criticism and acknowledge the pain inflicted.

The commission urges authorities to conduct an unbiased and impartial assessment and to ensure that any restrictions on freedom of speech adhere to the law and are fair, with consistent enforcement. Suhakam examines the jest made by Umno Sepang Chief Noorazli Said, which concerned a pastor and a midwife, and condemns the statement delivered during the Umno Grand Assembly on Saturday.

A police report has been filed against him. Noorazli stated that he sought an apology in a Facebook statement. Malaysian National Integration Minister Aaron Ago Dagang urged authorities to investigate Noorazli's speech under Section 298 and 298A of the Penal Code, as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act.
