Suhakam, Malaysia's Human Rights Commission, has reminded politicians that while Article 10 of the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, this responsibility also entails avoiding statements that undermine trust or spark hatred. The commission emphasizes that religious figures, scriptures, and practices should never be used as sexual material, distorted, or employed for political entertainment, regardless of whether the intention was humor.

Malaysia's diversity demands equal respect for all religions, according to the statement. Those who wish to have their beliefs and traditions honored must extend the same respect to the beliefs and traditions of others. The commission states that an apology in cases involving religious sensitivities should include efforts to address public criticism and acknowledge any distress caused.

The commission urges authorities to conduct unbiased and impartial assessments, as well as to ensure freedom of speech is governed by the law fairly and consistently. The commission also condemns humor made by Umno Sepang Deputy Chief, Noorazli Said, which revolved around a priest and a midwife, and has resulted in a police report.

Noorazli has apologized through a Facebook post. The Minister of Federal Unity, Aaron Ago Dagang, urges authorities to investigate Noorazli's speech under Section 298 and 298A of the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act, emphasizing that any humor touching on any religion, religious institutions, or beliefs is unacceptable, regardless of intent.
