Bandar Utama stabbing: Family relieved teen to receive psychiatric care after murder acquittal

In the wake of a 15-year-old boy's acquittal for murder, his family is expressing relief that he will now receive the necessary psychiatric care. The case, which took place in a secondary school in Bandar Utama, involved the teen killing his 16-year-old female classmate in a school toilet. Judge Adlin Abdul Majid acquitted the boy, stating that he was of unsound mind at the time of the incident, and ordered him to be detained at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak at the Sultan of Selangor's pleasure.

The family, represented by lawyer Kitson Foong, is relieved with the decision and hopes that the boy can receive proper treatment. They recognize the gravity of the case and extend their thoughts to the victim and all those affected by the tragedy. The boy's mental illness, which began at the age of nine and went untreated for five years, was found to be severe schizophrenia by forensic consultant psychiatrist Dr Ian Lloyd Anthony.

Without treatment, the boy's condition worsened, leading to multiple delusions. The court accepted the psychiatric evidence, finding the teenager to be of unsound mind based on an independent government doctor's assessment. The judge emphasized that this decision did not diminish the life of the 16-year-old victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest.
