Amankwa-Manu demands stronger intelligence sharing among security agencies to fight drug trafficking

Former Deputy Defence Minister Kofi Amankwa-Manu is urging the recall of Parliament to discuss Ghana's escalating drug trafficking problem. Speaking on Joy News' PM Express, the former deputy ranking member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament emphasized that Parliament must play a role in helping the government tackle the issue, particularly through its committees on Defence and Interior, Security and Intelligence.

"This is a worrying, you know, thing which has to be tackled holistically," he said. The Atwima-Kwanwoma MP suggested that Parliament could contribute by strengthening the sharing of intelligence among security agencies and collaborating with them. He called for a recall of Parliament to hold an in-depth discussion on the matter, stating that it is important to put collective effort into finding a solution for the problem.

The Atwima-Kwanwoma MP highlighted recent major drug-related cases, including the interception of 866 suspected cocaine parcels in August, the investigation into a methamphetamine seizure in Australia, and the recent seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine by French Customs. He stressed the urgency of the situation, stating that drastic action is needed to address the growing concern.
