Actor Darshan’s co-accused becomes approver in Renukaswamy murder case

In a major legal update concerning the Renukaswamy murder case, the prosecution has granted Pradhosh Rao, accused number 14, the status of an approver. This means Rao will cooperate with the investigation by providing full and truthful information. The Bengaluru court approved this decision on Wednesday after a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding Rao's potential testimony.

The prosecution's support for Rao's application was based on several factors, including the victim's mother not fully backing the prosecution's version during cross-examination, the hostility shown by at least one witness, and the possibility that another eyewitness might not support the case either. Judge Sujata M Sambrani carefully reviewed Rao's decision, ensuring it was voluntary and that he comprehended the conditions attached.

These conditions include Rao remaining in custody throughout the trial and facing re-arraignment as an accused if he provides false evidence or omits crucial facts. Despite Darshan Thoogudeepa, the actor accused in the case, filing a petition to postpone the decision, the court ultimately denied it, maintaining the status quo and rejecting the allegations of rivalry within the Kannada film industry as a motive.

The Renukaswamy murder case began on June 11, 2024, when Darshan Thoogudeepa, along with his friend Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, was arrested. All the accused have remained in judicial custody since the arrest. The police claim that Renukaswamy was murdered after he sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda on Instagram. According to the prosecution, Pradhosh Rao arrived at the crime scene later, was directed to examine Renukaswamy's phone, and participated in the assault alongside the others.

The post-mortem examination revealed 39 injuries, including 13 severe bleeding wounds and 17 fractured ribs. Rao is further alleged to have been paid Rs 30 lakh to conceal evidence. The chargesheet named Pavithra Gowda as accused number 1 and Darshan Thoogudeepa as accused number 2, with other co-accused listed under various numbers, ages ranging from 21 to 54, and occupations spanning various fields.
