Accra Rehabilitation Center appeals for urgent lifeline amid resource crisis

The Accra Rehabilitation Centre, a facility established in 1962 by Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has urgently appealed for financial and material support to continue its vital work. The center, which primarily relies on state stipends, is struggling to provide basic necessities due to irregular and delayed government funding.

Manager Seth Kwabla Dzidzornu emphasized that the center's mission is to equip trainees with disabilities with the skills needed to live independently and contribute to society. Despite public support, the center faces significant challenges due to neglected infrastructure, obsolete tools, and inadequate resources. Recently, postgraduate students from the University of Ghana School of Law delivered a substantial relief package, including food, toiletries, and essential provisions valued at over GHS 5,000.

Among the donations was a specialized laptop for a visually impaired trainee named Deborah, which will aid her in resuming her academic pursuits. The centre's director expressed deep gratitude to the donors and the students, highlighting the ongoing need for technological support and modern vocational training equipment. Center staff, including trainer Richard Ansah, stressed the trainees' potential but highlighted the necessity of improved learning environments and resources.
