Abuja industrial area to enjoy 24-hour electricity with 50MW mini-grid – Minister, Tegbe

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, announced that the Idu Industrial Area in Abuja will soon have access to electricity around the clock, thanks to the Federal Government's 50-megawatt electrification project. Tegbe revealed this information during an event in Abuja. The project is part of a nationwide initiative to conduct technical audits in key industrial corridors, with a focus on the Lagos industrial axis, Abuja-Kaduna corridor, and the Enugu-Onitsha axis.

The first phase of the Idu industrial electrification project is expected to provide 10MW by December 2026, with the remaining 40MW to be implemented by 2027. Tegbe pointed out that the Lagos industrial corridor constitutes roughly 40% of the nation's electricity demand, and government efforts in the area aim to generate or secure approximately 180,000 jobs within the next six months.

Tegbe emphasized, "We need to ensure the transmission happens. And then even distribution. I am sure Abuja Disco is represented here, because if you want to effectively distribute to the industrial end users, there must be a handshake." Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, highlighted the government's overarching industrial strategy, centered on fostering local production, value addition, economic diversification, and the integration of Nigerian industries into the global market.

Enoh stated, "When you produce locally, you contribute to job creation and provide our abundant youth with a pathway for employment."
