2027: INEC, stakeholders strengthen electoral partnership

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has been actively engaging with key stakeholders to bolster collaboration and ensure a smooth electoral process. Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, spearheaded the discussions during meetings held in Akure South and Akure North councils. Agboke emphasized INEC's commitment to working alongside stakeholders to effectively coordinate preparations for the elections across the state.

The REC urged stakeholders to collaborate, promote issue-based campaigns, and adhere to electoral laws. He specifically cautioned against vote buying, political violence, and other practices that could undermine the electoral process. The engagement also involved courteous visits to the palaces of the Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu and the Okiti of Iju, where the REC appealed to traditional rulers to use their influence to encourage active participation in the electoral process and adherence to electoral laws.

The stakeholders' meetings included representatives from various groups such as the Inter-Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), political parties, religious leaders, NURTW, NARTO, youths, and serving National Youth Service Corps members. These discussions provided a platform for stakeholders to outline their roles in fostering a peaceful electoral environment and strengthening cooperation with INEC before the 2027 elections.
