2027: ‘Directors in Abia use Keke to work under Otti’ – PDP guber candidate, Anosike

Dr. Kelechi Anosike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor in Abia State, has accused civil service directors of using tricycles, known as Keke NAPEP, to earn their living due to the poor welfare conditions under Governor Alex Otti’s administration. Anosike made his claims to journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

He stated that Abia workers are struggling financially and are being burdened by the rising cost of living under Otti’s leadership. Despite receiving substantial allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and local government councils, Otti's government has failed to pay the minimum wage to all workers. Anosike pledged to prioritize workers with a proposed minimum wage of N90,000 or more if elected in 2027, and he also promised to reinstate 15,000 sacked workers during Otti’s tenure.

He highlighted that while the national minimum wage benchmark is N70,000, the government pays wages ranging from N50,000 to N90,000. Anosike also pointed out that magistrates and directors in other states have official cars, but no magistrate in Abia possesses one. He emphasized the need to restore the dignity of workers, provide a sense of belonging, and motivate them to work.

Anosike and other opposition candidates aim to challenge Otti, the incumbent Labour Party governor, in the 2027 election.
