Young Commanders' linebacker placed on injured reserve

The Washington Commanders bolstered their offensive line on Wednesday, reaching an agreement with veteran lineman Lucas Patrick. The 6-year veteran, who has amassed over 100 NFL games and 65 starts, will provide immediate depth and experience at guard and center. To accommodate Patrick's addition, the team placed third-year linebacker Jordan Magee onto injured reserve due to a hamstring injury sustained in Sunday's Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

It is uncertain if Magee will return from IR, but it is probable. If he does, Magee would need to miss a minimum of four games. Magee was among four Washington players injured during Sunday's contest, joining Frankie Luvu (groin), Chig Okonkwo (hamstring), and Tyler Owens (ankle). Only Tyler Owens returned to full practice on Wednesday.

Magee's designation to IR, alongside Luvu and Okonkwo, who did not practice, was announced. The Commanders are cautiously optimistic about Luvu's recovery, believing it to be a short-term issue; however, his availability for Week 2's match against the Dallas Cowboys remains unclear. If Luvu cannot play, Leo Chenal and rookie Sonny Styles would start at inside linebacker, with Kain Medrano serving as the lone backup, primarily a special teams player.

Magee's injury, along with the recent setbacks due to the departures of Marvin Jones Jr. and Austin Keys to the practice squad, underscores the challenges faced by the Commanders in fortifying their defensive lineup.
