Workers at German auto supplier Bosch call for EU action to stem job losses

On Wednesday, labor representatives at German auto supplier Bosch called for EU-level action to combat job losses in the industry. Frank Sell, head of the general workers' council at Bosch's Mobility unit, representing around 70,000 German workers, emphasized the importance of maintaining value creation and jobs in Europe. Bosch plans to cut 13,000 jobs by the end of the decade as carmakers face competition from China, tariffs, and high production costs.

Sell demanded clear "Made in the EU" rules, allowing time for collaboration to enhance competitiveness. The European Commission is examining trade measures to protect local industry from low-cost Chinese carmakers like BYD and Chery, which are expanding their presence in Europe due to slowing home markets. EU leaders are set to discuss the bloc's growing trade deficit with China next month.
