Why NPP can’t forget about me despite my exit – Alan Kyerematen explains

Alan Kyerematen, the founder and leader of the United Party (UP), insists that his ongoing presence in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) highlights the party's relevance. In discussion on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem, he explained that the NPP's interest in his activities does not suggest a potential return to the party. "I explained why I left, so it is clear that people still see me as relevant," he stated.

The NPP's continued focus on Kyerematen is attributed to the political alternative he has created and the values he believes have been lost within the party. Kyerematen decided to establish the UP due to his conviction that certain traditions and values, once part of the NPP, need to be reinstated. "The reason the NPP has not forgotten about me is not because I am planning to return.

It's because I announced that I am starting something new, and they expect that UP's traditions I mentioned will be important," he added. Kyerematen was a founding member of the NPP and served as Minister of Trade and Industry before his departure from the party in September 2023. He later ran as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election under the Movement for Change, which later became the United Party after registration by the Electoral Commission.

His decision to leave the NPP stemmed from his objection to the party's 2023 presidential primary process, which he found to be marred by questionable delegate conference conduct and the treatment of his supporters. The UP now stands as an alternative political force outside the traditional NPP-NDC political order.
