West Discom Nears 1 Lakh Rooftop Solar Milestone As Malwa-Nimar Crosses 90,000 Installations

Indore-based West Discom is on track to surpass the 1 lakh rooftop solar installations milestone by mid-October, with currently over 90,000 installations in its Malwa-Nimar service area alone. This milestone is part of the push to promote renewable energy and encourage consumers to take advantage of the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The company has been actively working towards expanding solar adoption and providing subsidies for eligible consumers.

The West Discom has already installed more than 90,000 rooftop solar plants in the Malwa-Nimar region, with around 71,500 of these installations falling under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Indore district leads the region in rooftop solar installation, accounting for nearly 31,000 installations, followed by Ujjain and Ratlam. The discom has disbursed subsidies worth more than Rs 505 crore to over 66,000 consumers through DBT under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

The subsidy per household can go up to Rs 78,000, contingent upon the capacity of the rooftop solar system installed.

Rajasthan’s total rooftop solar generation capacity has reached around 540 MW, including installations under other schemes and across various premises. West Discom managing director Anoop Kumar Singh is making efforts at both the company and circle levels to boost awareness about the scheme and encourage more consumers to install rooftop solar systems. The discom expects to cross the 1 lakh rooftop solar installation mark by mid-October, further bolstering the region’s renewable energy capacity.
