US VP Vance says Iran war 'will end immediately after the election' - report

US Vice President JD Vance stated during an interview with The New York Post that the conflict with Iran will transition into a "much different phase within a couple of months" following the upcoming US midterm elections in November. Vance noted that the Strait of Hormuz, the global energy chokepoint, has now "returned to well over 50% of normal traffic."

He emphasized that while the future is unpredictable, President Trump is correct in his prediction that the conflict will enter a different phase in a few months, as he is the commander in chief responsible for determining when conflicts begin and end.

Addressing the growing dissatisfaction among American citizens over the ongoing war, which has reportedly incurred costs of $33.4 billion since February, Vance acknowledged the impatience but highlighted that the United States is not currently engaged in aggressive operations and is merely maintaining a presence. Despite US naval efforts to clear the strait of mines over the past four months, maritime traffic continues to remain significantly below pre-war levels, with only about 20% of the global oil supply passing through the Strait.

The US military has significantly damaged much of Iran's missile and drone capabilities, yet the Iranian regime continues to target commercial vessels and launch attacks against US bases in the Middle East, resulting in the deaths of 18 US servicemen and women since the conflict began. Vance explained that US operations in the region should be understood in two distinct phases: the first phase focused on eliminating Iran's nuclear program and conventional military capabilities, while the second phase aims to prevent the regime from rebuilding and maintaining global stability.

Vance collaborated with Pakistani negotiators in mid-June to facilitate the Memorandum of Understanding, which initiated a cease-fire and laid the groundwork for negotiations concerning Iran's nuclear program and the commencement of disengagement procedures for the conflict. Drawing parallels to Vance's perspective on the end of the war, President Trump stated on Wednesday that "right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward," adding that "the war will end immediately after the election because they can't hold out any longer."
