Undrafted wide receiver Jalen Coker is thriving in Carolina while first-round pick Legette struggles

Charlotte, N.C. (AP) — Undrafted rookie wide receiver Jalen Coker is excelling with the Carolina Panthers, while fellow first-round pick Xavier Legette is struggling on the depth chart. Coker, who took over the No. 2 wide receiver spot opposite Tetairoa McMillan, had a standout performance against the Bears, catching eight passes for a career-high 138 yards and two touchdowns. This follows a 134-yard, touchdown performance in last year's wild-card playoff game against the Rams.

Panthers coach Dave Canales praised Coker, comparing him favorably to undrafted wide receivers who contributed to the 2014 Seattle Seahawks reaching the Super Bowl. He emphasized that Coker must simply make plays when they are given to him.

Coker's work ethic and effort are evident in his performance. Last season, he quickly had success and this offseason, the Panthers rewarded him with a three-year, $35 million contract extension. The rest of the league seems to be taking notice of Coker's abilities.
