Tributes paid to ‘MS’ on her 110th birth anniversary

On the 110th birth anniversary of iconic singer M.S. Subbulakshmi, tributes were paid in Tirupati on Wednesday. A gathering of music lovers, aspiring singers, stage performers and classical music scholars paid homage to her at a bronze statue of her at APSRTC junction. The audience sang her compositions as a mark of respect, addressing her affectionately as 'MS Amma'.

Students of the Nadaswaram department performed a traditional musical piece. Speakers highlighted her significant contribution to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) through substantial royalty earnings from her performances of Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatham and Annamayya Kirtans. The president of Rayalaseema Rangasthali, Gundala Gopinath Reddy, led tributes to her statue, recalling her role in spreading devotion through classics like Bhaja Govindam and Vishnu Sahasranamam.
