The Witcher 3 producer says it's scary to work with another studio on the game's expansion: 'I also think twice about leaving my baby with someone'

The Witcher 3 is set to receive an expansion called Songs of the Past, as well as a significant remaster, despite being over a decade since its initial release. CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the game, is not working on this expansion and potential future titles, The Witcher 4, alone. Instead, they have partnered with an outside studio, Fool's Theory, which was founded by former CDPR employees.

When questioned on PC Gamer about the intimidation factor of collaborating with another studio, Jakub Kutrzuba, CDPR's executive producer, likened it to caring for one's own child, stating, "This is very correct. As a parent, I also think twice about leaving my baby with someone." Kutrzuba emphasized that the familiarity with many former CDPR developers at Fool's Theory alleviated some concerns, as their perspectives and aspirations aligned well.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that collaborating on creative work can be challenging, particularly when it comes to storytelling. Kutrzuba stressed the importance of finding studios with a similar mindset and commitment to game design as art, as this helps ensure a shared understanding of quality and high standards.
